The Whitlam Institute will host an important new exhibition Dedicated to the Dedicated: Whitlam, the Arts and Democracy, which features an unique collection of artworks gifted to Gough and Margaret Whitlam in 1979, in recognition of the Whitlam Government's landmark support for the Arts in Australia.
This is the first public exhibition of this very personal Folio, which includes works by John Olsen, Brett Whiteley, Lloyd Rees, John Coburn, Arthur Boyd and more, and which now forms a treasured part of the Whitlam Collection.
This fascinating new exhibition documents how Gough Whitlam viewed the arts as not just as a means of enriching quality of life, but as a fundamental human right and a precondition of a healthy democracy. He elevated its status on the social democratic agenda and as Prime Minister, he provided an unprecedented level of support for the work of creative Australians.
Parking available at $9.00 per day.
