ART & MUSIC Exhibition
The exhibition ART & MUSIC celebrates and commemorates International Day of People with Disability. It consists of paintings that explore identity created by children and young adults from the Chinese Parents Association of Children with Disability, affectionately known as the CPA KIDZ.
The Chinese Parents Association - Children with Disabilities (CPA) supports the utilization of creative arts as a method of examining disability in relation to society. CPA also supports the established and emerging artists, and together with the community, the development of knowledge and expression of disability culture and pride.
Art help to uncover the artistic expression of people with either hidden or visible disabilities. CPA views "disability" as a natural and value variation of the human form. They believe affirmatively disability identity is intertwined with racial, gender, social and economic justice.
The CPA art program hopes to raise public awareness about the special gifts young people with disabilities have to offer and recognise the importance of diversity in our Australian community. The youths of the CPA art program are to be congratulated for their successful exhibitions.
CPAKidz is the name of a live band of 18 youths with disabilities from the Chinese Parents Association-Children With Disabilities Inc (CPA). The CPA is a charitable organisation serving children with disabilities and their families since 1988. The objective of forming a band was to develop the ability and uncover the potentiality in music for our youths with disabilities. The CPA KIDZ are wonderful musicians and will perform at the launch of the exhibition.
They will be accompanied by Indonesian muscial performances and a workshop by Sisca Hunt. Everyone attending is welcome to participate. As one of the key objectives of the exhibition and performances is to acknowledge and break down isolation due to language, sexuality or a disability. CPAKidz have performed their music and singing in a number of public events. Their hard work and achievements are acknowledged by the community organisations.
