Eagle Vale High School is located in the Campbelltown school district and has an enrolment of 634 students. The school has a culturally diverse community with students from over thirty different cultural backgrounds. Thirty five percent of the school population, identifies as being part of the pacific islander community, including; Samoan, Tongan, Maori or Cook Islanders. Eagle Vale High School is committed to sustaining and building a culture of learning. All teaching and support staff are driven to improve the learning outcomes of student’s at all academic levels.
Our exhibition showcases students work cross years 7-11 including students from the support unit. Each year group looked at various topics in Semester 1.
Year 7 worked on portraiture, self-identity and studied the artist Del Kathryn Barton. Students also studied continuous line drawings, grid drawings and proportions of the face. These influences can be seen in their artworks.
Year 8 studied Aboriginal art and were influenced by the Aboriginal painting technique of x-ray animals. They also studied the artist Albert Namatjira and his watercolour paintings using the influence of his artworks and creating an appropriation of his work. During Semester 1 Year 8 have also developed artworks based on the local Claymore area.
Year 9 & 10 studied Still Life focusing on the modern art movement- Cubism. These artworks incorporated cubist techniques such as collage, mixed media and abstraction. The students studied Pablo Picasso and developed their own interpretation of a Cubist Still Life.
Year 11 studied Self-portraits and completed case studies on Frida Kahlo and Brett Whiteley. The students were required to complete a portfolio of 5 self-portraits ranging in style and media. A number of these works have been selected for this exhibition.
This exhibit showcases the talented work of the dedicated students at Eagle Vale High School. All students participating have worked hard in class to achieve artworks that they can be proud of exhibiting.
